Deruism
Religion-wiki — for all religions and none
| | This article is about a constructed religion. The religion has been created by users of Religion-wiki. It may have none, one or very few followers. It may contain elements from world religions. It may be taken seriously by those who have created it, so use the same respect as with any other religion. |
Deruism teaches that one must find and accept truth to achieve inner peace, enlightenment, and spiritual balance. Truth is believed to be a state of being cleansed of all discrimination, hatred, turmoil, and jealousy. It is believed that this cannot be achieved in a single human life, but it is to be used as a model for one's life.

[edit] Meaning
The prefix "*Deru-" stems from Indo-European languages meaning "Truth". Ironically, "*Derw-" is a prefix meaning "wood". Since Deruism is a nature-based religion, this is appropriate.
[edit] History
Deruism is considered a New-Age religion that was started in Chicago, Illinois in 2006 by Felix Bieker. His growing interest in Paganism and Socialism in turn sparked his ideas about the universe and pushed him to start a new religion. He borrowed ideas from major world religions while, in turn, bringing contemporary ideas to belief system.
He wrote a book called Deruism: A Path to Truth in 2007 that explains the beliefs and teachings of Deruism in depth.
[edit] Beliefs
Deruism has a contemporary view on a cosmos. The idea is that there is a different power, rather than a higher power. A fabric of creation other than ours is believed to exist and is known as the astral plane. Natural energies cause the astral plane along with our plane of existence. And each entity that is created from these energies is a manifestation of the universe.
It is actually more Atheistic in the sense that Deruism teaches that there isn't a "God" in the sense of a higher being that can hear, see, and know everything. But there is a different realm of creation.
The religion teaches that modern science should be accepted as fact. Due to evidence and constant testing. It also supports theories like the Big Bang Theory and The Theory of Evolution. In this sense, at any moment Deruism can completely change its point of view if proven incorrect.
[edit] Morality
Thelema and Aleister Crowley completely influence the belief on ethics and morality. Deruism teaches that every person has a set list of rights, to live as they please and that no man shall infringe on those rights. The same set of rights exists for every creature as well, not only human beings.
Although this basic moral code exists, there is no Karma or Divine Punishment that is believed to exist. There is also no Hell in Deruism for one to be damned to, as a conscious afterlife is believed to not exist.
[edit] Afterlife
Bieker wrote in 2006:
"Modern Science has proven the existence of natural energies in every entity in the natural world. Animate and inanimate. It has also shown that once these entities cease to exist, the natural energies remain in tact. This is evidence for an afterlife, or a continuing existence of the soul, although, this shows nothing in the way of a conscious "second" life."
Deruism teaches that there is no second chance at life, or an afterlife. It is believed that one should enjoy their only life to the fullest (while, obviously, following the moral code.) It is believed that the soul, or natural energies, continue existing, but not on a conscious level.
